Dance Dialects
Dance Dialects is a project supporting the creation and presentation of new multi-cultural dance works by professional artists.
Workshops took place in August, and rehearsals are now underway for a new culturally diverse dance work. Senior cultural dance artists, Lynn Martlew, Danielle Pender, Premala Sangarananda, Zhi Dan Chang and Michelle Locke have been collaborating with artistic director Danielle Micich, choreographer Shona Erskine and composer Ash Gibson Greig for the new work.
Showings of the work in development are scheduled for 23 – 24 January 2009 at 8 pm and 25 January at 6.30 pm, at King Street Arts Centre Studio 3.

West Australian Dance Awards
Nominations are now open for the 2009 West Australian Dance Awards. Here are the nomination forms.
The West Australian Dance Awards (WADAs) have been presented annually since 2005. There are nine awards in total and they are:
- Ausdance WA Lifetime Achievement Award
- Outstanding Performance by a Female Dancer
- Outstanding Performance by a Male Dancer
- Outstanding Achievement in Choreography
- Award for Design and/or Composition in Dance
- Outstanding Achievement in Teaching
- Award for Emerging Artist
- Outstanding Achievement in Community or Regional Dance
Anyone can submit a nomination and we encourage all dance audience members to do so. The judging panel then creates a shortlist of about three nominees per award, with the exception of the Lifetime Achievement Award, for which there is no short-listing process. The short-list is published in the e-bulletin, on the Ausdance website and in dancewest magazine. The panel then chooses the winners from the short-list. The winners are announced at a special event held in celebration of the WADAs in the second half of the year (date and venue TBA).
Outback Dance—dates TBA
Ausdance WA ventures to the Outback! In collaboration with a regional community, Ausdance WA will develop an integrated program that includes dance workshops for schools and the community, professional development opportunities for regional artists and community performance.
