Mentorship and performance in Terrain: multicultural
contemporary dance festival
for emerging choreographers of culturally & linguistically diverse and Indigenous backgrounds
What is Terrain?
Terrain is a biennial festival which profiles the work of dance artists of diverse cultural backgrounds. This year’s festival runs for 3 days, and consists of a curated performance season by experienced and emerging artists, a residency by an NTbased Indigenous choreographer, a community dance day and a discussion forum.
Who is this opportunity for?
Tertiary students or independent artists with less than 5 years of professional
practice, who are of culturally & linguistically diverse or Indigenous background, can apply for emerging artist places in the performance program.
What is provided?
You will have mentoring support from an established choreographer in Terrain to make a work of approximately 5 minutes in length for performance. This is a fully supported opportunity: you will receive an artist fee and a budget for rehearsal space and costume, and your work will be professionally staged and marketed.
What kind of work can I make?
Your work can be a solo or a group piece. It must be contemporary dance, or take a contemporary approach to choreography. Some things you might like to think about are: Terrain. Geographies. Countries, bodies, histories, sectors. Contemporary cultural movements.
How do I apply?
Send in a CV, your contact details, and 1 – 2 pages outlining your idea for your work and why you would like to be part of Terrain to the address below, making sure you cover all the assessment criteria listed below. Please include some photos or a video/DVD of your work if possible.
The proposals will be assessed according to: the quality of the choreographic idea proposed and its links to the theme ‘terrains’; how the opportunity will assist the development of the artists’ practice and profile; how the artists will contribute to the range of approaches to contemporary movement showcased in Terrain.
The due date for proposals
Friday 29 August and results will be notified approximately one week after.
Send proposals to Ausdance (Vic) Inc., PO Box 1472, Collingwood VIC 3066 or email to victoria@ausdance.org.au
