process

Body and mind have evolved together throughout time and continue to act indissolubly, in time.

The ability to reason and solve problems is the result of a bodymind which is able to explore its own mental landscape and construct maps both within it and in the external world.

Nowhere is this more evident than in the complex structures in both space and time which are the creations of our best choreographers and dancers.

In accordance with the commitment undertaken in the research application, the project is focused entirely on work being developed by choreographers and dancers. The questions we are asking and the primary results of the project will therefore be most evident in the experimental work undertaken in the studio. Choreographer Anna Smith also has the demanding role of Research Associate. The dancers, (Sheridan Davy, Jade Duffy, Hannah Panelli, Kathleen Skipp, Brooke Stamp, Nicole Steven and Deidre Stewart) have been her research assistants and Michele Heaven is conducting associated research as a Master's degree student. During 1999 a series of public forums and presentations has enabled us to present a range of dance material on screen, and has also involved the choreographer and the dancers in discussions of the research process and its possible significance for the dance industry.
