The Ausdance AON Insurance Scheme

Ausdance, in conjunction with our insurance broker, Aon Risk Services, is delighted to launch our revised insurance offering supported by competitive premiums and coverage conditions. Coverage for all types of performances and dance-related activities, including:

  • public liability; professional indemnity
  • studio contents and property protection
  • business interruption and loss of income
  • protection against no-show, cancellation, curtailment or postponement of performances, venue costs, performers' and managers' fees, equipment hire etc.
  • personal accident and illness; lump sum death and disablement
  • workers compensation; voluntary workers
  • community festivals auspiced by Ausdance members

The Ausdance Insurance Scheme is underwritten by ACE Insurance Limited, a fully authorised Australian insurer.

Background information

Insurance for dance teachers and performers is a major issue, and among arts organisations, Ausdance has been at the forefront in ensuring that the dance profession is adequately catered for. In 1987 the National Office began a tailor-made scheme (the SafeDance Insurance scheme) for dance teachers. Since that time the scheme has been developed to include independent artists and dance companies. Our needs are managed by Aon Risk Services, one of Australia's largest insurance brokers.

Ausdance has continued a long term relationship with Aon, particularly because it was able to arrange alternative cover for the dance profession following the upheaval in the insurance industry two years ago. This swift action placed the dance profession in a privileged position compared to many others in the arts, and we continue to maintain that position despite the difficulties faced by other art form artists.

Why Ausdance recommends this scheme, designed specifically for our members:

  1. The Ausdance Insurance scheme is underwritten by APRA approved underwriters licensed to conduct business in the Australian insurance market, rather than unauthorised overseas companies.
  2. Our Liability Package includes Public and Products Liability, together with Professional Indemnity (broadform coverage).
  3. Cover is available for teachers, independent artists' performances as well as for companies, and can be extended to include other dance-related activities . All forms of dance are catered for.
  4. Ausdance events, including those under the umbrella of Ausdance (e.g. community festivals) can be covered, virtually impossible to obtain for other community groups.
  5. Other insurance covers such as studio contents, personal accident and illness, Workers Compensation and Superannuation can be arranged.
