the three licence agreements
AMCOS/ARIA Dance Schools Licence
Australian Performing Rights Association(APRA)
For dance and callisthenics schools a single combined AMCOS/ARIA annual licence is available to cover limited uses of the following rights:
- The reproduction of AMCOS controlled musical works into audio recordings;
- The reproduction of ARIA controlled sound recordings into audio recordings;
- The synchronisation and reproduction of AMCOS controlled musical works into video recordings;
- The synchronisation and reproduction of ARIA controlled sound recordings into video recordings.
Phonographic Performance Company of Australia (PPCA) /Ausdance Special Licence
This licence allows you to publicly perform (i.e. play) commercial sound
recordings. The playing of a CD, record or audio cassette in a dance
school causes the public performance of a sound recording to occur.
The PPCA licence is separate to and distinct from an APRA licence.
If you publicly perform a sound recording and the underlying musical
work you will need to apply for a licence from both PPCA and APRA.
The Australasian Mechanical Copyright Owners Society (AMCOS)/ARIAlicence
This
is a special combination licence covering a number
of ‘reproduction’ (i.e. copying) activities controlled by
either AMCOS or ARIA.
The licence fee charged takes account of the fact that a number of reproduction
and synchronisation activities, covering both musical works and sound
recordings, are collectively covered by this licence. If each of these
activities was licensed separately, the user would expect to pay considerably
higher licence fee. In particular, the audio recording component of this
licence alone would attract a higher fee than the fee quoted for this
combined licence.
The special combination licence covers the
following uses
(a) The reproduction of AMCOS controlled by Musical Works into audio
recordings;
(b) The reproduction of ARIA controlled Sound Recordings into audio recordings;
(c) The synchronisation and reproduction of AMCOS controlled Musical
Works into video recordings (limited to 75 copies per year);
(d) The synchronisation and reproduction of ARIA controlled Sound Recordings
into video recordings (limited to 75 copies per year).
