WDA Global Summit 2008
Guidelines for Presenters
Presenters must adhere to specified time limits. Since audience interaction is a crucial part of our Conference/Performative Dialogues, additional time for questions and discussion has been allocated (this discussion time is not additional time for your presentation).
* We encourage all delegates to ‘speak’ to the points in their paper, rather than read it.
Scholarly papers
A 20 minute presentation based on your paper, allowing up to 5 minutes for discussion.
Panel presentations
Panel presentations of up to 5 speakers (including the panel convener, who will also act as chair) presenting one topic in depth from diverse viewpoints will be required to prepare a 60 minute group presentation, with an additional 30 minutes for panel discussion and audience questions.
Performative presentations
This format is designed to privilege the voice of the practising artist. You will be given 25 minutes to demonstrate your work, with 10 minutes for questions and discussion. A 5 minute ‘turnaround’ time to bump in/out between presentations is allowed. The venue is a ‘black box’ theatre with basic lighting support.
Performative DVD presentations
These performative presentations grouped into themed panels will allow 20 minutes each for a DVD showing of the work and contextualisation by the presenter, with 5 minutes for questions and discussion.
Postgraduate poster presentations
An online template (recommended) to prepare the poster is available here. These submissions will be enlarged to A1 size and printed by QUT. (Please ensure that any photos will translate clearly to Black & White format).
All posters will be displayed in a designated seminar room for the duration of the conference. In groups of six, researchers will be given 10 minutes each to talk to their poster display including up to 3 minutes for showing of DVD material as required. An additional five minutes for questions will be allocated to each presenter.
Technical Facilities
- All conference venues at QUT Creative Industries Faculty have full MELT support, but no overhead projection (OLH) or slide projection facilities.
- For PowerPoint presentations we recommend a high contrast between text and background with the font to be no less than 16pt to ensure legibility for all delegates.
- Set-up and dismantling of individual lap tops cannot be accommodated because of time constraints. Therefore in fairness to other presenters, personal laptops will not be permitted for use in presentations. All presentations will be loaded in order onto the venue’s own computers.
