WDA Global Summit 2008
International Choreolab
The Choreolab is the major component of the Global Summit’s ‘physical dialogues’. It will facilitate critical debate and extend dance practice, and it will provide:
- an opportunity to work with international peers and colleagues with a view to ongoing collaborations
- skills and professional development for choreographers and dancers
- cultural diversity in choreographic approaches, movement material and expressive encounters.
An International Choreolab will allow four mid-career choreographers (from Australia, Asia-Pacific, Europe and the Americas) to each work with seven professional dancers of diverse cultural and genre practices from Australia and overseas, under the mentorship of two leading international and experienced choreographers. They are: Lloyd Newson, artistic director of DV8 and Boi Sakti, Artistic Director of Boi Sakti Dance Theatre.
This five-day intensive workshop will culminate in a ‘showing’ at QUT’s Loft Theatre as the final event of the Global Summit. Participation will be via a competitive selection process by internationally-recognised dance peers. The process and outcomes will be documented by two experienced researchers, and will be published in the Conference Proceedings.
