Dance education
Career development & further training
SCOPE is a unique professional development program providing career and education support services to Australia's professional dance sector.
This short course provides dancers with the skills and teaching strategies needed to successfully teach dance in community, recreational and social settings (including schools). Those who complete the course will receive a Statement of Attainment which is nationally recognised.
Advocacy for dance education
The NAAE advocates for arts education in both institutional and community
settings, develops arts education policy, and promotes quality teaching
and learning in the arts. The NAAE provides access to an extensive network of arts
educators and artists, and represents the interests, concerns, values
and priorities of arts educators in Australia. The NAAE has also published resources for teaching dance in schools.
The TDCA is a coalition of directors of dance courses offering intensive
training for the dance profession.
Resources for teaching dance
This code has been devised by leading representatives of Australia's
studio teachers to inform teachers and the public of the ethical standards expected by the profession of its practitioners.
The Australian Guidelines for Dance Teachers outlines codes
of ethical and professional behaviour and emphasises the importance
of safe dance practice and teaching methodology.
Dance Education in Australian Schools
Abstract: Dance Education in Australian Schools was commissioned by Ausdance (then the Australian Association for Dance Education) in 1991, in response to an invitation from the National Arts in Australian Schools project. Until its publication there had been no nationally agreed position on dance education. Robert Osmotherly, a prominent dance educator and researcher, was commissioned to write the position paper, following extensive consultation throughout Australia.
